When The Rug Gets Pulled Out From Under You, Pull Back

Life is hard. Whether you’re 18 and you didn’t win homecoming queen, you’re 23 and had to leave the boy you moved your entire life to be with, or you’re 51 and you just got fired from the job you spent 5 days a week for the last 20 years working- Life is hard.

Life is disappointing. Whether you stayed up all night waiting for an apology but your phone never rang, you just finished the nursery but you lost the heartbeat, or you sped home from work to eat your favorite dessert that you’ve meticulously placed in the back corner of the fridge only to find that someone else beat you to it- Life is disappointing.

Every once in a while you will find yourself climbing into bed after an arduous day, promising yourself that tomorrow will be better. If you are really lucky, it just might be. But sometimes, the weight of the world is too heavy to unload in a single night’s sleep.

…What now?

Take a walk. Take a deep breath. Take control.

Change your location. Change your hair. Change your perspective.

Life is fortuitous. Whether the person in front of you at the drive-thru paid for your coffee, you won $50 on a lottery ticket you spent $1 buying, or you fall in love with your best friend- Life is fortuitous.

Life is beautiful. Whether you’re driving through the park with the music on shuffle and your favorite song starts playing, you ask God for a sign and a butterfly lands on the grass at your feet, or you get to stand next to your sister on her wedding day as she marries the man of her dreams- Life is beautiful.

When the rug gets pulled out from under you, pull back.
