Celebrate Your Successes Even If There’s Room For Improvement

By

Could it really be possible that no matter what you do you’ll never be considered a success?

Well, yes.

By who, you might be wondering?

Well, yourself.

We all understand that success and failure mean different things to different people. When we are left to our own thoughts and feelings, and we really reflect, we can truly define what success means for us.

However, with 2017 around the corner, never before have we been exposed to and consume the amount of media then we currently do. We create subconscious images of what it means to be successful and when we evaluate our own life and realise we do not even come close to these lofty ideals, we consider ourselves failures, overlooking many of our own accomplishments.

Would you consider a single mother who dedicates her life to putting her kids through college a success?

Exactly. Me too.

But, now consider that she is overweight, works in a dead end job and has had numerous failed relationships.

Is she still a success?

Absolutely. What she has achieved some would consider a miracle. Her kids would think so too.

But she can’t see herself as a success. Her failed relationships make her believe there is a flaw with her character. Being overweight makes her feel she has neglected her health. By not being a successful, ambitious, career driven woman she feels she is a poor role model to her kids.

Now, some of this may be true and most of it definitely isn’t.

But that’s not the point.

She will never live with a happy and positive mind-set if she’s overlooking what she’s achieved by constantly reminding herself of what she hasn’t.

Of course, there are always areas in our lives we need to improve. There always will be.

But that search to improve yourself can sometimes make you forget what you’ve already accomplished.

I know I’m guilty of it. Are you?

The bombardment from all sources of media of what success looks like is forever creating a sense of under achievement in all of us. We have become disillusioned with what success is and because of this, we try to reach a state of perfection which does not exist.

We all have accomplished something we can be proud of. Celebrate your achievements. Accept that you are successful and that you need to continue that success.

Set goals to grow and develop yourself from a mind-set of positivity.

Live your life to better yourself and your circumstances, but never to bow to the demands of what the media and society tell you is success.

Only you can define it.

To leave you with a beautiful quote from Jim Rohn:

“Success is not something you pursue. What you pursue will elude you. It can be like trying to chase butterflies. Success is something you attract and accumulate by the person you become.”
