Police: Teen Commits Murder, Posts Selfie With Dead Body To Snapchat

Authorities in Jeannette, PA have charged 16-year-old Maxwell Morton with criminal homicide and murder in the first degree for allegedly shooting Ryan Mangan—also 16—to death.

Mangan was shot once in the head and was found in his mother’s home last Wednesday.

What makes the story remarkable is that a woman allegedly alerted police after Morton sent her son a Snapchat photo of himself posing in front of Mangan’s corpse. Morton had also allegedly sent the following text message:

Told you I cleaned up the shells. Ryan was not the last one.

According to a police affidavit:

[The photo] depicted the victim sitting in the chair with a gunshot wound to the face….It also depicts a black male taking the selfie with his face facing the camera and the victim behind the actor. The photo had the name ‘Maxwell’ across the top.

Police also claim that Morton has confessed to the murder.

This is perhaps a new low for social media—or perhaps “antisocial media” is a better term.
