I Can’t Promise You I Won’t Write About ‘Us’

By

I can’t promise I won’t write about you

I can’t promise I won’t pick up a pen

And ink your name over and over again

Until the pen bleeds out on the page

If you make me smile

If you make me cry

If you make me laugh

Then there is no guarantee

That you will not come to read

A poem that reminds you of us

An essay that tells our story

A novel encapturing who you are

I can’t promise I won’t write about you

If you attempt to hold my heart in your hands

You will be smearing my blood on the pages

Writing in it all the words I needed to say

Art cannot be stopped

If my hands are still moving

And my mind is still thinking

And my soul is still feeling

I will be writing of you

I can’t promise I won’t write about you

Don’t become too disheartened

The good and the bad

Will be as honest as it felt

And you will be written

As you truly are

And I do not let those

Whose hearts reek foul

Penetrate me enough

To be written about.
