To All The Women Who Are ‘Too This’ And ‘Not Enough That’
Every woman knows that for whatever reason, every person on the planet feels entitled to have an opinion about a woman’s life. As my divine goddess Stevie Nicks puts it, “When you grow up as a girl, the world tells you the things that you are supposed to be: emotional, loving, beautiful, wanted. And then when you are those things, the world tells you they are inferior: illogical, weak, vain, empty.” It’s hard to win as a woman because “winning” involves the impossible notion of pleasing everyone’s individual palate, of always being enough without ever being “too much.”
This is why I believe every woman needs her own personal feel-good, fuck you anthem. This Caroline Smith and Lizzo collaboration is my new favorite version of this. They describe it as, “In celebration of all the ladies out there that were told they were “too this” and “not enough that”; All of the mamas out there busting their asses; All of the women out there that make us proud to hold a microphone.”
