Tennessee Representative Tells Little Girl Her Father Has To Be Deported, Tea Party Crowd Cheers

This week, in an all-new Is There A Low To Which Vast Swaths of the GOP Won’t Sink?, Republican Tennessee State Representative Scott Desjarlais told an 11-year-old girl who had approached the podium at a town hall that “we have laws” and that her father was going to be deported, to the delighted cheers of the Tea Party crowd in attendance.

According to Raw Story:

Rather than make any attempt to assuage the girl’s fears, Desjarlais said, “Thank you for being here and thank you for coming forward and speaking,” but “the answer still kind of remains the same, that we have laws and we need to follow those laws and that’s where we’re at.”

The tea party crowd whooped and applauded wildly as the little girl took her seat, head down. Progressive Populist reported that Josie Molina’s father is currently in the process of being deported and that the girl is seeing a child psychologist in order to cope with the stress and anxiety.

In addition to this charming moment, Desjarlais is notable for being a staunch anti-choicer who, upon discovering one of his many mistresses (former patients of his from his days as a physician) had fallen pregnant, pressured her into terminating the pregnancy — ostensibly to save face and, as he put it, be “forgiven” by God.

Stay classy, everyone. Stay classy.
