Why New York Will Never Be Mine

I’ve sort of settled down in this city—or settled-down as much as I can anywhere. The short story is, New York City will never be my city—its mass transit system will never cease to flummox me and the alcohol taxes are too damn high—but more than that, everything here seems transitory.

But what they don’t say clearly enough, or really demonstrate in these movies, is that we are our own person and relationships come and go but we’ll always be left with our own, singular lives to figure out and our own happiness to find.
