When You Ran Out On Me Before Our Wedding

The pair of socks, they said, was to keep your feet warm.
Never did I imagine how cold your feet would turn in such a short notice.

Your cold feet stopped you from attending the wedding.
I would have called it ‘our wedding’ if only you showed up.

Where were you with those feet and heart so cold?
Did you freeze somewhere without me?
Why had you not told me anything before?

And so it began to snow in my world. Everything appeared distant and cold. There was so much talking but they began to sound softer and softer, eventually, fading into the background. The colors of my life disappeared into grayscale. And slowly, there were only one shade of grey, and it turned black.

I should have bought you a pair of socks.
