Whatever You’re Going Through Doesn’t Have To Define You

By

You are more than the heartbreak you are suffering, you are more than being cheated on, and you are more than a drunk decision you made. You are more than your anxiety, you are more than feeling worthless, and you are more than your family struggles or your eating disorder. You are so much more than anything and everything you are going through.

You are also not alone.

Everyone goes through struggles and hard times don’t think you are the only one who has ever felt pain or lost in the world because you’re not. Everyone is fighting some type of battle. Everyone is working on defeating their own demons in their own way.

The happy couple next to you one the tram might be struggling with money and it’s tearing them apart. The old man eating alone at the diner might have just lost his wife and he doesn’t know what to do other than keep his routine. The girl poking at her salad might be recovering from an eating disorder. The guy wearing long sleeves in summer might be hiding his self-harm.

You don’t know anyone’s stories; you just see what they present on the outside, you see what they want you to see.

What you are going through doesn’t have to define you, it doesn’t have to consume you and tear you down, even though it might. It’s okay to cry, it’s okay to be sad and acknowledge your emotions, but you can’t let them control you. You can’t stop it from letting you live because you are worth so much more than what you are going through.

Don’t let life strip you of your happiness and joy. Don’t let what you’re going through take away your pleasures and your spirit. Don’t let it dictate your emotions and your state of mind. Don’t let the actions of other people make you question yourself, don’t let their words consume you and make you hate who you are.

People can be mean. People cause heartbreak and disappointment. People come and go, they love and they leave. Don’t let others actions and words make you unkind, don’t let them change your heart.

And no matter what you do, don’t do wrong to others just because others have done wrong to you.

Don’t let the experiences you go through change you in a negative, heartbreaking way; don’t let them make you hateful and bitter. Don’t let them change you for the worst and control you because as hard as things might seem right now, you can fight through this.

Everyone has to make life changing decisions, but you have to do what you think is best for you. You cannot let your struggle and wounds define you. You can’t let those decisions define you, because even if you made a poor decision everyone makes mistakes, we are all human.

It’s what we do with those decisions that are important. It’s what we learn from them and what lessons we take away. Don’t live in your failures, don’t let the world make you unkind and don’t let what you’re going through define you because you are so much more than how many times you’ve fallen, you’re how many times you’ve got back up.
