13 Things All Independent Women Want Their Girlfriends To Know

By

1. Stop saying “It doesn’t matter if I’m doing bad in school, it only matters how my future husband is doing in school.” This only reinforces the idea that girls need to be dependent on a man (or anyone else for that matter) for anything.

2. The boy doesn’t always have to pay. On average, males make 30 cents more than females in the same position, but that doesn’t mean he can afford to treat you every time you go out. Pay for him for once. If you can’t do that, at least split the bill or pay for your own meal.

3. Make sure you give your significant other a present once in a while too. Because a relationship isn’t one person giving and another person taking. It’s a responsibility of both parties to spoil the other with love (and presents).

4. Don’t say “I’ll just marry rich.” Become rich on your own.

5. Don’t be afraid to be alone.

Too many girls get into or stay in relationships because they’re afraid of being single. This only fosters dependency on another person. Learn to be alone and enjoy time to yourself.

6. Stop making others do things for you that you’re completely capable of doing yourself. Take out your own garbage. Move your own damn boxes. Stop being lazy and do it yourself.

7. Never ever dress for anyone but yourself. You’ll never feel more beautiful than the times you wear an outfit just because YOU like the way in looks on YOU. You can’t please everyone. So, just focus on pleasing yourself.

8. Don’t value yourself based on the number of likes your selfie gets on Instagram. Newsflash, your value and worth as a person does not lie in that one filtered square.

9. Stop calling other girls sluts, whores, and bitches. It’s degrading for two reasons. For one, when you’re calling a girl a bitch, you’re literally lowering the female population to that of an animal. Also, calling a girl a slut or whore only adds to this idea that a girl’s worth lies in her sexual activity (or lack thereof) instead of her intelligence and character.

10. Make sure you read and educate yourself. When you educate yourself, you learn to think for yourself. When you think for yourself, you prevent the ability for anyone or society to control you. Be your own person, have your own thoughts.

11. Stop thinking you need someone to complete you. Read this over and over again until it completely sinks in: You are whole on your own. You do not need anyone now, or ever to complete you. Stop thinking of yourself as less than 100% of a person.

12. Don’t expect to get respect just because you’re a girl. There is nothing that states that a woman automatically gets respect simply because she is a woman. Respect must be earned from everyone.

13. Be who you want to be, not who society tells you to be. Society is messed up. It wants girls to be sexy but not have sex. To be skinny instead of healthy. To care more about looks than intelligence. It’s absolutely impossible to live up to these ridiculous standards. So, be the person you’ve always dreamed of being. You can achieve that, and you’ll actually be happy because of it.
