Charles Holdefer
Bio
Charles Holdefer’s novel, The Contractor, about an American black site and the use of torture in the “War on Terror,” was an American Bookseller’s Association “Book Sense Pick.” His next novel, Back in the Game, will be published in June 2012. His short fiction has appeared in The New England Review, The North American Review, Southern Humanities Review, and other magazines. His literary essays have appeared in The Antioch Review, L'Œil du spectateur, The New England Review and World Literature Today. He was co-editor, with Andrew McKeown, of Philip Larkin and the Poetics of Resistance. Charles grew up in the U.S. and has spent much of the last two decades in Europe. He is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and the Sorbonne. He teaches in the English department of the University of Poitiers, France.
