How I wish I could tell you that the world is perfect. That people love each other despite their differences, despite their flaws. That loneliness doesn’t exist or that there’s no such thing as a broken heart.
How I wish I could tell you that the path you take will be easy. That friends will never turn their backs. That family will always understand. How I wish I could tell you that things will always go according to plan and you’ll never fall down and skin your knees on the hard ground.
But if I did, I would be a liar.
This world we live in? It’s filled with pain and distrust. It’s filled with anger and racism, with frustrated hearts and people running on empty, trying their best to be filled by whatever they can get their hands on.
This world is aching and broken. It’s tired and weary. It’s lost sometimes.
But that’s not all this world is.
This same world that cries, rebuilds.
This same world that is shattered, heals.
This same world that has hate in its heart also has love, so much love.
This world is not just the people with bitterness in their bones. It’s not just those that can’t accept people who are different. It’s not just heartbreak and frustration and confusion.
No. This world is filled with forgiveness, too. It’s filled with people who are accepting, with people who will fight for the beliefs of others, and stand by them in the wake of tragedy, holding hands. This world is filled with people that are compassionate, that would cross boundaries, cross enemies, cross countries, just to share love with others.
This world is filled with patience, with thoughtfulness, with kindness, with care. This world is filled with miracles, with generosity, with hope. Hope for even better days to come.
Please don’t let the coldness of the world harden your heart. Don’t allow your body to dance with the devil, to only see the bad instead of the good.
Don’t let your mind be tangled up in negativity, only seeing what’s wrong instead of what’s right. No, this world isn’t perfect, but it’s wonderful nonetheless. It’s complicated and confusing but it’s filled with so much to learn, filled with so many people just as eager to bless it as you are.
Don’t let yourself be hardened just because of the things that are broken, or not going the way they should. Instead, see this world as a work in progress. And see how you can help to save it, to nurture it, to help it grow.
