Hurricane Sandy Liveblog
1:45 AM, Crown Heights, Brooklyn It looks like a moderate/bad storm from Crown Heights. No severe wind, no serious rain, just a major inconvenience. Still no hurricane-like symptoms. Kittens (3 months old) continue to be cuddly and needy for love. Like, want to sit on your face and purr kind of love. Alcohol continues to be consumed (rum and tequila; dealers choice). Newest venture: Day After Tomorrowdrinking game. Drink every time: Jack talks about his theory. Any weather buoy is mentioned. Sam enters or exits the library. The VP ignores reality and makes a bad decision. The dying cancer kid is mentioned or shown. A new weathered problem is mentioned. Google it, first result. Great way to pass the time. Except we’ve added the twist that whoever finishes their drink last has to take a shot. So we’ll be enduring this hurricane white girl wasted style. I might die… My worst problem is that I have a cold and I’m rapidly running out of cold medicine. Thoughts and love go out to anyone who refused to evacuate zone A. Hope you all found high ground. The pictures of ave C are CRAZY. (Reader submission — Elaine)
1:05AM, West Virginia Blizzard. Trees snapping. Hearing explosions all across valley. Everything in blackout. Hoping our house stays on… Otherwise no heat at all in several feet of snow. Worried about the local hospital, and our elderly neighbors. Every time the power grid switches on it does with a horrific humming noise. Starting to get very cold. (Reader submission — Jolene)
1:04AM, North Williamsburg, Brooklyn Here is a State-by-State breakdown of power outages from the storm: 1,130,000 out of power in New York state; 1.6 million in New Jersey. (Chris)
12:59AM, North Williamsburg, Brooklyn
On my way home from the Williamsburg Waterfront to witness Manhattan blacked out, I strolled through McCarren Park to see if anything was happening there and stumbled upon a 50 foot stadium light smashed to pieces from falling in the wind. One of the crazier things I’ve seen all day, aside from a blacked out Manhattan looking straight out of a Michael Bay movie. (Reader submission — Rion Harmon)

12:33AM, Las Vegas, Nevada
I’m floating in and out of consciousness. Writing this email to TC drunk right now. My parents who are 75 and 72 are stuck in Manhattan without power. I live out in Nevada, somewhat concerned about them. I know the hospitals are messed up in NYC, but like most places in the world don’t even have hospitals. Like, what is going in Baghdad right now? So, I guess, this is just life. (Reader submission — Caroline Manning)
12:40AM, Williamsburg Waterfront, Brooklyn this is what New York City looks like in a blackout.

Half dark, half light.

Freedom Towner in darkness.
More blackout images can be found on Thought Catalog’s Flickr. Darkness is light. (Paul)
12:38AM, Philadelphia,PA I’ve been indoors for more than 48 hours alone. It’s really windy and everything is going around. Have been feeling existential/depressed for the last 24 hours or so. I ate all the edamame in my freezer (2 bags). Took 8 klonopin and 2 xanax at 8pm and I’m not high anymore. Questioning why there is a hurricane and also questioning after it’s all over, what’s going to happen next. Also really worried about my future and how much weight I might gain in the next 5-10 years if I keep eating what I eat. (Reader submission — Raoul)
12:15AM, Financial District, Manhattan “South end of Stone St.”
About where this is:

12:01AM, East Williamsburg, Brooklyn Going to work on getting some kind of list together where readers can focus on providing relief to those in serious need. Update in a few minutes forthcoming. (Brandon)
