Tomorrow’s New Film Releases: Highlights
Bridesmaids dir. Paul Feig
Now that the summer is approaching, it’s no surprise that we’re getting yet another Judd Apatow production. This one is directed by Paul Feig, who is most noted for having created the cult TV series Freaks and Geeks and directing numerous episodes of Arrested Development and The Office. What is perhaps most interesting about Bridesmaids is that it’s about women, whereas most if not all of the Apatow comedies have male protagonists, with some of them being decidedly brocentric. Now we’ll get a chance to see the female equivalent of that particular brand of humor. Bridesmaids is written by two women, Annie Mumolo (whose only other writing credit is Betwitched with Will Ferrell) and Kristen Wiig, who co-stars and is currently on the Saturday Night Live cast.

What happens in a world where we don’t try to control one another, but live in harmonious acceptance of one another? Those in power are debunked. They will have to learn to be loved and revered for who they are, not what position they hold.
