Help Fight Prostate Cancer With Us And Win A Free iPad!
You know how we usually see a dude with a mustache and think to ourselves, “Ew! He looks like a creeper driving a white van!” Well, for the month of November, they might just be guys who are donating to a worthy cause. Movember (Get it?! Because of mustaches and November?!) is a worldwide movement that promotes men’s health awareness and raises funds to fight prostate cancer. In case you didn’t already know, prostate cancer starts in your prostate gland (which is located in a less-than-ideal part of your body) and is the second leading cause of cancer death in men. According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 6 men will get it in their lifetime and 1 in 36 men will die from it.
Thought Catalog is participating in Movember and encouraging our readers to raise awareness and even perhaps give a donation. It’s an issue close to our hearts here at TC. As I’ve mentioned before, my father battled prostate cancer a year and a half ago and survived. He had his surgery done in New York and spent three weeks in my tiny studio with me recovering. Before my father’s diagnosis, cancer didn’t feel really personal to me. I knew people who had died from it (don’t we all?) but it hadn’t hit close to home. Seeing my father go through something so excruciating made it all the more real to me and I began to realize, through his experience, how insidious prostate cancer actually is. It doesn’t usually show symptoms until it’s too late, which makes it imperative that you go to your annual screening. Being aggressive and proactive in his treatment and subsequent recovery is surely what saved my father’s life.
Because of my father, I’m now twice as likely to get prostate cancer in my lifetime. But even if you don’t have a family history, you’re still at risk. And trust me, as someone who has seen the effects of this type of cancer, you don’t want to screw with prostate cancer. It’s here, it’s something to fear, and it’s in your BUTT.
So please join our team over at Movember and if you can, drop a donation to this great cause. It can be a little bit, it can be a lot, it can even be medium! You should know though that we will be giving away a freaking iPad to whomever raises the most money. Seriously. An iPad. I don’t even have one of those things! Sounds pretty sweet, right? You can feel like Mother Teresa AND be on top of the technological trends! (Necessary legal note: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE 50 UNITED STATES (D.C.) 18 YEARS AND OLDER. ENDS 12/9/11. TO ENTER AND FOR OFFICIAL RULES, INCLUDING PRIZE DESCRIPTIONS, VISIT HERE. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.)
Let’s help bring this gnarly mofo down together. Let’s spend November growing stigmatized facial hair and thinking about the sanctity of our precious bootys. Your butt: 1. Prostate cancer: O.

i inhaled deeply. your scent, your deodorant, your cologne, even your morning breath. i know these scents so well and the familiarity is comforting.
This video of a puppy watching a scene we’re so familiar with and evoking the same sentiments we once felt is oddly heartwarming, extremely precious and a dash of funny.
You died, and the hope that you would one day love us back the way we loved you died with you.
Weight Watchers likes to say that nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. Which I guess means they’ve never tasted Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
